19th June 2024 3.45 - 5.45PM Blended learning course led by Paul & Julie Boyd with 2 hr live online session, plus at least 4 hrs self directed learning activities This course is available in two other formats: * As a 'Train Your Team' version to study at your own pace (see 'Train Your Team' menu on home page) * As a bespoke course in your school (online or one day face to face) - contact us for details Course assumes basic textiles knowledge & is most suitable for textiles specialists wanting to embrace the D&T GCSE but who feel less confident in some areas of the core. OUTCOME * Identify how textiles fits into D&T GCSE in a way that retains its creativity & uniqueness * Develop knowledge for D&T GCSE core content that teachers may be less confident with * Develop a textiles curriculum from KS3 - 5 that embraces a broader materials approach * Strategies that embrace textile traditions as well encouraging innovation & change CONTENT * Brief overview of learning in the D&T GCSE (England). Content also links to KS3. * Identify core content learning that textiles specialists may be less familiar with * Creative activities that bring the core content to life in a way that's relevant to textiles * Particular focus on non textiles materials, levers/mechanisms & electronics * Using a broader materials approach to support creativity & innovation in textiles * Approach that celebrates traditions & creativity of textiles whilst embracing new ideas * Content suitable for all specifications * Challenge perceptions & stereotypes about what textiles is & raise its profile * Reinvigorate teaching & create a buzz about textiles * LIVE ONLINE SESSION INCLUDES HANDS ON ACTIVITIES (resource pack posted) Online session introduces the main ideas & the self directed activities enable participants to create a personalised CPD programme focused on applying ideas in the classroom. RESOURCES INCLUDE: material samples, materials for some practical activities, self directed learning programme, resources to support T&L IMPORTANT * Course fee pays for one person to attend the live online session * Online session is held on Zoom & participants contribute via audio or video * Course doesn't include NEA content * A 'one size fits all' curriculum model & schemes of learning are not provided * Some activities/projects are provided to illustrate ideas discussed See home page for T&Cs
