Part of Boyd Education
We're now semi retired and although we'll be continuing with some of our work supporting Design & Technology teachers we're gradually reducing this work to focus more on our own projects as artists and makers (click here for more details on our education). Find out more about our work as artists and makers below.
Julie is a textiles specialist who enjoys working in a range of contexts from fashion to textile art. Her particular interest is hand embroidered textile art using both traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques. Her bold use of colour, pattern and texture is often inspired by pop art, Art Deco and contemporary abstract art.

Julie’s textile art challenges the stereotypes of what textiles is and how materials are used in a way that embraces both traditions and innovation. She often uses traditional textiles techniques applied to non-textiles materials and contexts, including embroidering onto wood, metal and functional household items such as tea strainers Her work aims to make the viewer reconsider their perspective on how textiles materials can be used and how non textiles materials can be used in a textile context in unexpected ways.
