The strainer is made from stainless steel woven wire that has been hand embroidered with cotton embroidery thread. The product is for decorative purposes only.
The design is inspired by maritime signal flags which spell out the phrase 'Love New Brighton' (which is the seaside town in Merseyside where I live).
Silver coloured sieve with the dome decorated with hand embroidery stitches. The sieve is attached to black mounting board and displayed in a black shadow box frame.
Approximate measurements: Shadow box frame width 21.5cm (width) x 26.5cm (length) x 5.5cm (depth), sieve 10cm (width). 22.5cm (length).
The sieve is made from stainless steel woven wire that has been hand embroidered with cotton embroidery thread. The sieve has been chosen as the base for the embroidery because the woven wire mesh is similar to traditional embroidery fabrics such as aida and canvas. The use of the sieve also challenges stereotypes of what embroidery techniques can be used for.
This embroidery is completely hand made and mounted and has taken over 20 hours to make.
