The strainer is made from stainless steel woven wire that has been hand embroidered with cotton embroidery thread and decorated with paper and fabric flowers, buttons, beads and sequins hand stitched into place. The strainer is displayed on metal stand with a wooden base (included with the artwork). The product is for decorative purposes only.
The artwork is inspired by the Victorian symbolic language of the flowers where different blooms, colours and arrangements discreetly represented various emotions, particularly to communicate love and secret messages. The use of a strainer as the embroidery base also has links to the Victorian era when strainers with a fine metal mesh basket were introduced to strain tea due to the popularity of teas made using smaller leaves. The Victorian aesthetic meant functional objects were often highly decorative with eclectic designs as this implied wealth and this is reflected in the highly embellished surface of the artwork which is decorated with hand embroidery, beads, buttons and paper and fabric flowers. The display stand also echoes the Victorian aesthetic of showcasing objects on pedestals allowing viewers to appreciate the artwork from different angles.

A display stand is included with the artwork but the strainer can be also be hung on a hook or nail or it can be laid flat on a surface.
The back of the strainer is also decorated with paper flowers hand stitched into place.
